When a friend, family, colleague or loved one is diagnosed with MND, everyone is affected in some way. This is exactly what happened to a group of friends in Auckland when their beloved friend, Tracy Whiston, 36, was diagnosed with MND earlier this year.
Out of a feeling of helplessness, wanting to help raise awareness of MND, as well as fund invaluable support to people all over New Zealand affected by this tragic illness, exciting fundraising initiatives have been set up to raise money for the Tracy Whiston MND Charitable Trust.
Auckland teacher, Caroline Bush, 39, is running her first marathon ever, and challenged herself to complete the world’s largest marathon in New York on November 7th. Sponsorship money raised through Caroline’s amazing efforts will go to the Trust. Sponsor Caroline through the Tracy Whiston MND Charitable Trust page on Fundraise Online. www.fundraiseonline.com.
Tracy’s friends are also getting as many people as possible to participate in the Panasonic Triathlon on December 5th at Mission Bay, Auckland www.peoplestri.co.nz Tracy herself completed the Panasonic Sprint tri at Maraetai in November 2009 swimming 500m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run. There are a range of distances available from the Try- Tri to the more challenging Standard Tri. You can enter individually for all three disciplines, swimming, cycling and running or enter as a team.

Tracy and husband Paul set up the Trust to provide a facility for fundraising activities to support all New Zealanders affected by MND. Paul and Tracy have created this charitable trust dedicated to supporting the provision of MND fieldworker time, especially to those in rural NZ. In doing this valuable work the Trust has the full endorsement of The MND Association.
The fantastic initiatives mentioned above will be the first of a number of fundraising programmes that will establish ongoing fund raising in the lead up to the NZ MND day, every year on June 21st.
So please show your support and register your interest today!

The Intrepid Barbara Gilchrist
To be eligible for the event, The MND Association has to provide 600 pieces of home baking for riders, transport during training and the event itself, as well as each rider needing to raise $500. Barbara Gilchrist and her family are leading the charge on all this support – so give them (and us!) a hand and donate towards Barbara’s target when her FundraiseOnline page comes up!
