Making a bequest

Bequest Wording

Thank you for your interest in including a bequest to The Motor Neurone Disease Association of New Zealand in your Will. It is important that your bequest is worded correctly and the following is recommended as a guide.
You don’t need a new Will to add a bequest the Motor Neurone Disease Association of New Zealand. You can simply add a clause known as a “Codicil” to include the Motor Neurone Disease Association,  NZ.  A Codicil, once witnessed, signed, and returned to your solicitor, is a formal addition to the principal Will and allows for simple adjustments to be made if required.

You may wish to give this wording to the solicitor who is preparing your Will.

Residual Bequest

“I give and bequeath to the Motor Neurone Disease Association of New Zealand in aid of work of the association and for its general purposes, the residue of my Estate for which the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised Officer shall be an absolute discharge.”

Pecuniary Bequest

“I give and bequeath to the Motor Neurone Disease Association of New Zealand in aid of the work of the association  and for its general purposes, the sum of $…. for which the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised Officer shall be an absolute discharge.”

The Motor Neurone Disease Association is a deductible gift recipient and an income tax exempt charitable entity for tax purposes.
